Professionalism in Doctoral Programs
Maintaining professionalism in academia is so important, especially at the doctoral level. This world of education is small, and you never know who knows who. Recently, I heard a story of a classmate who was supposed to submit work to be peer-reviewed but never did. Then, she accused the peer reviewer of not reaching back and completing said review. This may sound like middle school drama, but no, ladies and gentlemen, it also happens at the highest educational levels. What d

Designing for Diversity
Where or how have you used UDL thinking or methodologies — or observed its use by someone else — prior to your introduction in this module? Boothe et al. (2020) share that “Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is an evidence-based educational framework that supports the needs of all learners through the use of multiple means of engagement, representation, and action and expression” (p.1). The Effect of Media and Technology on Learning
Some of us see technology as an everyday addition to teaching and learning. The question of “if” technology should be used is seldom asked in my work location. Adding media to instruction is also, without question, essential to student learning. Although we may question the appropriateness and type of media used, the COVID-19 pandemic changed how we teach and students learn, thus making technology and media essential components of today’s classrooms. However, this was not alw

Connectivism and Learning Theories
Instructional technologists use constructivism, behaviorism, and cognitivism to develop online learning environments. These theories were developed before technology overtook education (Siemens, 2005). The digital age has changed the way students learn. Siemens (2005) shares that 40 years ago, a student could learn without digital technology; today, students need to master the technology to discover new content. Connectivism is a reasonably new learning theory introduced in

Defining the Field of Instructional Technology
D2 by Anna Clayton Defining the field of instructional technology is daunting since technology moves faster than the ability of humans to find common ground. AECT has defined Educational Technology as “the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes and resources” (Januweski & Persichitte, 2008, p.280). Before joining the ITDE doctoral program, I believed educational techno

Comparative Analysis Between the Educator and Student ISTE Standards
D1: by Anna Clayton Part 1: Look for similarities between the Educator and Student ISTE Standards and then look for areas where the two sets of standards possibly diverge. I have experience with the ISTE standards as a teacher, student, and instructional coach. I attended a teacher training pro gram through a 3-D printing grant and received information on student and educator standards as part of the training. Depending on which of my colleagues you ask, I would be described

On the Journey
Welcome to my 2023-2024 Academic School year. This is the year that I finalize my dissertation and earn my doctoral degree. This has been a challenge, but with my amazing husband's and my children's support, I have made it this far. I see the final light at the end of the tunnel, and I look forward to completing this dissertation journey and moving on.
